Turntable Credenza Bar

Picture this: A dozen of your friends gather in your New York penthouse to celebrate new years eve. Sinatra croons from the turntable, guests cycle past a tray of Hors D'Oeuvres siting on credenzea. Midnight approaches and you click an elegant tactile knob over one notch to raise the bar in preparation for raising toasts.

My design is a combination of elements from a few inspirations around the web. see them below.

Best suited for Cedar or Walnut with gold accents and hardware, the shallow credenza table incorporates a turntable, amplifier, speakers, and an electronically raising bar.

  • The bar can be chilled through a cooling plate in it’s base, keeping the bottles just below room temperature, and a thin strip of lighting in the top reflecting against the mirrored backplate would add a lot to the atmosphere.

  • The turntable cavity should be topped with a thick pane of tempered glass so you can see what’s playing under your drinks, but opens with a gas spring assisted parallel bar system to keep the pane parallel in case any tipsy guests leave a martini on the glass when you go to change the record.

  • The turntable deck itself probably should be hung from rubber bumpers to isolate it from speaker and actuator vibration.

  • A brushed aluminum control pod attached to the side could be considered an exercise in the design principle of anomaly, drawing the eye and giving the furniture a sense of unexpected mystery. A VU meter and two chickenhead knobs are hosted on it’s face- one to control the amplifier volume, and one a simple Open-Close toggle for the electric raising hardware.
